HBDJ Weekly Update – Week 19

Week 19 has been a ripper. Plenty on, even if nothing hit the DJ calendar for us. So for once, we got to be the punters.
On Thursday, we were lucky enough to catch Carl Cox at Med Lounge. Seeing one of the greatest to ever do it in a venue that intimate was something else. Proper high-energy house all night, and the crowd was completely locked in. Safe to say — house music is very healthy in Tauranga right now.
Friday we split paths.
Michael headed to Totara Street to catch Subsonic throwing down some filthy drum and bass heaters. Meanwhile, I shot up to the 09 to Neck of the Woods to see Osmosis Jones.
Heading to Auckland was 100% the right call — even with the drive back and a 10am shift waiting. The energy at that OJ gig was unreal. I genuinely didn’t realise how strong the UKG scene is up there right now. There’s serious love for it — and it’s got us thinking about how we bring some of that energy down to Tauranga.
That’s about it for this week — more observing than performing. But sometimes that’s just as important.
Big reminder: Friday the 20th — our first Open Decks of the year. Year two of this series is about to level up. If you’ve been thinking about coming down, this is the one.
Catch you next week,
Jay
