HBDJ Weekly Update – Week 1

Hey everyone, Welcome to Week 1 of the HBDJ Weekly Update!

This week, we want to give a huge shout-out to the crew at The Voodoo Lounge for always being so welcoming to musicians and DJs across Tauranga. Their support for up-and-coming artists — giving them a space to perform and host their own nights — has been nothing short of a godsend for the local music scene. Seeing them close their doors come November 1st will be a very sad day!

Massive thanks to Jackie and Joel, as well as the entire Voodoo team, and of course our friends at Elite Security & Hospitality Aotearoa — these guys know how to run a venue right!

Now, with Voodoo closing its doors, we’re facing our next challenge: finding a new home for our monthly Open Decks nights. These events have become one of our favourite ways to end the month — a chance to connect with the community, discover new talent, and celebrate DJ culture here in Tauranga.

We’re also working on something new behind the scenes: recording and posting DJ sets on YouTube. Our XDJ setup already records audio, but we’re testing out camera gear and backup recording options so no moment gets lost (even if the decks decide to nap mid-set).

So, while we search for our next venue and fine-tune the tech, make sure you mark these dates in your calendar:🗓 26th October & 31st October – two big nights you won’t want to miss.
